The Story of Dollies.
Since as long as I can remember makeup, beauty and care for people has always been my passion. In high school I was always the girl getting into trouble for styling peoples hair in lessons!
However, I was never a truly girly girl. I also enjoyed sport and would never have fit into the mould that studying hair an beauty at college gave. I knew I wouldn't have fit in with that group of girls so out of fear, I went to sixth form instead. But even during Sixth form you couldn't keep me away. Doing my friends make up for events in and even dabbling in acrylic nails at one point! I was obsessed and couldn't stay away.
Yet again, the fear beauty wouldn't be my place and still having fears of being ridiculed for wanting to become a part of that world I went to University to study a degree in criminology at DeMontfort university.
The uni life was not what I expected and I found myself in a dark place, feeling very depressed and suffering from a lack of purpose. This was when I knew it was time to follow my dreams and not care what others think.
February 2018 at aged 18 I worked to complete my Classic lash diploma! I completely fell in love from the moment I picked up my tweezers! As soon as I got home I spent my last savings from my job at Sainsbury's on a lash bed and enough lashes to get my through maybe 5 sets of lashes. I was over the moon! While still studying for my degree I travelled mobile all over the midlands completing lashes. Working 12 hours a day driving to and from all over accepting any appointments I could to get my name and reputation out there. Put Dollies on the map!
Over the course of my first year at University and lashing to my hearts content. I became too busy to lash mobile and needed a place to lash permanently. This was a dream come true! But I couldn't lash at home as many do, There was no spare space where I lived having 3 other siblings and lots of dogs. This meant Dollies had sustained enough profits to rent a small space for me to continue my dream! This was all within 12 months of starting Dollies. I couldn't believe it!
My first salon was a tiny shed like property completely hidden from view. It was not the type of salon you see on social media but it was the best option for me. From there I expanded my team once I became fully booked for a fortnight in advance. After training two new lash technicians I found a passion for teaching and helping people begin their lash career. Then the Dollies training academy was born. To add to this I began to create my own lash range and after trailing 100s of products I finally have my sell out items. I also have my passion for makeup which encouraged me to create my own strip lash range. I was over whelmed by the positivity I received during this launch. With over 50 orders I was over the moon. Then Covid-19 hit and we were closed for 8 months of 2020. I was heartbroken. But I channelled this fear and concluded that it won't last forever. I spent my months creating my dream salon and creating the perfect team to expand Dollies further. This is not the end, its barely the beginning.
